Our 2013 summer FOUNDations Youth Mission trip led us to the Colirio church near Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to construct a church, conduct a dental clinic and lead out in children's ministries. We had 55 volunteers on this mission trip.
We were able to complete the church in six days as planned. The construction was led by our young people. We had a special (unplanned) event this trip - a tropical storm hit the island on Monday! We worked on Sunday - and it was SUPER hot and humid. We planned to go to work on Monday (day the TS hit), but the roads were already too bad, so we spent the day at the hotel using up all of our planned team building exercises we were going to do each evening! We were able to complete the work on time regardless - even with missing an entire day.
Our Dental team provided free services to the community next door to the new church site. They were a blessing and were able to attract many to the new church! Dr. Pena was a local dentist from the DR and worked wonderfully with our young people - to the point that he allowed them to extract teeth (as shown below!)
The VBS team were able to conduct the program at a local school and show hundred's of the area children about God and tell them about the new church.
For our excursion, we were able to make a visit to a local beach for a fun day of activities.
