Our Summer FOUNDations trip for 2022 was conducted from June 30-July 11 in Nazca, Peru. We built a church, conducted a dental clinic and children's ministry for the area. This trip is focused on our young people from our church and 37 of the 55 volunteers were young people.
Our group of construction volunteers were able to complete the church building in six days. We were able to help with completing the roof and we were able to help with the sidewalk around the side of the building. We were blessed with cool and dry weather and with a wonderful Maranatha team that had worked with our young people in previous years. We were able to dedicate the completed church on Sabbath and the entire congregation was in attendance.
Our VBS team was able to present children's ministries to the local area for over 50 local children. The children were very receptive and quickly formed bonds with our volunteers. The children presented some of their songs at the church dedication.
Our dental team was able to serve over 100 patients during their time in the community. Our dentist was able to quickly organize the team and deal with some sicknesses in our team. We were able to meet the most urgent needs of the community through our team!
As this trip was conducted during Covid, we had to test multiple times during the week. We did have two of our volunteers that tested positive and were isolated to avoid community spread. They were able to test negative by the end of the week and participate in the end of week dedication and excursion.
For our excursion, we were able to take a plane ride to see the world-famous Nazca Lines from the air. Only one person got airsick so that was a win!
